March 2017 – Village of Zorange and more

In March 2017 Gen1 Project was able to travel to Haiti to compete a new drilling project in the village of Zorange.

Our team along with H-PI Haiti spent several days drilling a new water well that will serve a village and public school.  Additionally, the team spent time delivering food, clothing & medical supplies to remote villages outside of Port-au-Prince.

As part of our follow up process, on this trip we visited our 2016 well drilling location to get an update on its status and usage.  In the village of Merger our well had produced over 62,000 gallons of clean water in 12 months. (UPDATE: over 132,000 gallons as of November 2017).  The pastor in this village has informed us they can not keep up with the demand for clean water at this location, so Gen1 plans to add an additional storage tank to double the output of the well in the near future.

“I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti with Gen1 for my first time in March of 2017. I worked alongside wonderful men from Haiti and from the Gen1 Project. I was involved in repairing a water well as well as assisted in drilling a new well that would provide water to thousands of people there. I was blown away by the living conditions in these areas and how scarce their access to clean water was! But nothing prepared me for the amazing attitudes of the wonderful people in these communities. The adults and children were so happy! I kept thinking to myself, how are these people still smiling and so upbeat? How do they keep such a great attitude living in conditions like these? That’s when I realized I didn’t find Haiti but Haiti found me. I wasn’t necessarily looking for anything new in my life. Little did I realize that my life would be even better, richer, more full, and have much more meaning with Haiti in it! The people of Haiti are some of the most inspirational, incredible, talented, fun, and most loving people I have ever met! I am so unbelievably thankful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Gen1. It is so fulfilling and rewarding to be a part of something so life-changing and to continue to help bring clean water to these communities. This experience has truly changed my life and I definitely plan on continuing this awesome journey and wonderful eye opening experience with Gen1. I can’t wait to go back!”
